Focal Epithelial Hyperplasia (Heck's disease) – Case report in a Nigerian child
Abstract
Focal epithelial hyperplasia or Heck's disease is an oral mucous membrane disease caused by the
human papillomavirus. It presents with multiple papules or nodules in the oral cavity. It is a rare
disorder commoner in children but can occur in any age. The clinical presentation is however
somewhat different in children and in adults. Despite the fierce appearance and the viral etiology of
this condition, it is a relatively benign condition that resolves spontaneously over time.
